Aquella tarde, esperaba a mi novia
y mientras fumaba un cigarrillo
me sorprendí al ver a aquel viejo
que con dificultad se movía,
avanzando lentamente hacia
la entrada del cementerio.

Por curiosidad lo seguí a distancia,
llegó frente a un panteón
que no lucía flor alguna
y con el bastón limpió el frente
de telarañas y hojas que el viento
de octubre arrastrara.
Me acerqué sigilosamente
tratando de escuchar lo que decía:
- ¡Salve presidente!
Tronó la voz del anciano,
no sin cierto esfuerzo.

Desafortunadamente la política está presente en nuestras vidas y yo vivo alejado de ella. Sin embargo aprendí a amar la revolución de octubre por por lo que ella significó para el país. Eso se lo debo a mis padres quienes reconocían en el presidente Arbenz a un hombre que quiso mucho a esta nuestra patria y trató de quitarle el yugo que aún llevamos, el subdesarrollo. Este poema, mi padre pidió que lo escribiera, un poco antes de morir.

has cuidado de relatar con versos
una historia difícil,
ya que la política no abunda de rima
pero sí de ejemplos buenos
y enseñanzas perdurables.


La igualdad de derechos y deberes
es un camino duro,
muy duro,

se va haciendo más fácil.
