    The ships are bobbing restlessly
Upon the water in the bay,
They tug upon their heavy chains,
    Like children pulling parents' arms
When adult mysteries keep them from
    Enjoying some frolicsome pursuit.
    Their waving masts, like metronomes,
Keep time as waves attack the shore
    Creating deep-voiced melody.
The giant fig tree standing near,
All of a sudden comes awake,
    Emits an angry, roaring sound,
Then to its peaceful sleep returns.

We know what causes waves to swell,
    And can predict the rising tide;
The star that causes rise and fall
In the ever-changing sea of life,
    And unexpectedly awakes
Our heavy minds with rays of light,
The force that pulls unwilling limbs,
    Like some ingenious puppeteer,
    That influence works mysteriously,
    Bamboozling proud reason.
