SILVER EARRINGS


Pieces of metal dangling

from my earlobes

a unique offering of present love.

You bought me two pairs

and one broke.

The other I guard with my life

I only wear them on special occasions

they bring such sweet memories

when I first arrived.

When you got the little box

and placed it in my hands

you couldn’t wait

we were sitting in your living room

the sun was shining, but it was cold

and your curtains

were barely open, letting in the light.

Two small trees

and the color of my birthstone,

you know how fond

I am of earrings.

Small pieces of metal

rubbing against my skin,

part of my neck

an offering of present love.
