    Thunder
    rattles the panes,
    gusty squalls push
    lazy
    impervious coconuts
    adrift in the shallow pond
    clumped with sticks
    and fronds.
    Upriver ducks
    waggle, joyful,
    glad that the drops
    come down hard and fast
    but not so heavy.
    They’re the only ones
    who brave the weather
    today.
    My Saturday
    that I was supposed
    to spend on the beach.
    But now it feels right
    to watch the Vertical
    spraying
    from the charged
    gray vapors
    to mend
    the once droughted
    Horizontal.
