Their rotting bodies washed ashore.
The roar

Of guns that spit the horror games
Of flames

Is mother’s salt upon her scar
Afar.

Is that a bird of char
Or ravens flapping wings?
It’s only Death who sings

Note: There are a number of attempts out there on the issue of "ovillejos" in the English language. This one -albeit in a shorter meter than most English "ovillejos" I came across- is my shot at it using the iamb throughout the poem as the sole rhythmic foot. The rhyme and meter pattern are: 8a-2a-8b-2b-8c-2c-6a-6d-6d-6a.
