Amor, one big lesson
I'm learning as I get older is,
-I'm still working on a lot of crap-
but it goes along with appreciating
each day to the very last second, and
simply because I can be gone the next day.

I'm coming to terms
with my graying hair, a few
extra pounds, and the fact that
I still have my teeth, so I can
smile and eat whatever
the fuck I want.

Do you think it would be
possible to mix in some
Spanish here, Fidel?
is a question
I ask myself
at times.

Surely, I would think to myself,
the word "amour" is quite well-known.

Hi Flor, good morning and happy Monday to you.

This poem was inspired by my reflection in the mirror, as I contemplated the past, the future, and the present moment of my life. I have grown to love my gray hair, although…me pongo a pensar…when it used to be thick and long, resembling a black horse from the Middle East. Y pues, regarding my extra weight, which is not much, by the way, I can't help but recall the time when I used to participate in both long and short marathons, whereas now I can barely manage to run for about 10 blocks. The good news, dear Flor, is that everything else is working just fine, according to my doctor. However, he has instructed me to avoid eating to many conchas or Mexican bread. Lo bueno es que hay conchas grandes o normales y las chiquitas. La verdad es que…. After 51 you start going down the hill or getting old or closer to the pile of dirt. Gueno, que se le va a hacer.!

Saludos and thank you again…have the loveliest day, and week.

Fidel Guerra.
