Struggles with the light

[Guadalupe Cisneros-Villa]

Much later no one will know
the struggles the light has caused.
For now,
there is safety in the darkness
with its gentle caress
against my forehead
as the breeze swings by
and causes a chill
down my spine.
There is no such peace
in numbers as we were told
it has all been a lie, a vicious lie.
Yet, we believe it because
we are told so, and continue
searching outside the cave
yet longing to return.

Mucho me temo que este poema filosófico tiene mucho que ver con el mito de la caverna de Platón. Sin embargo, la alusión a los números parece tener más que ver con Pitágoras. Yo nunca he buscado la paz en los números ni en las ideas puras, solo en las palabras, que son el compromiso que el hombre ha encontrado entre la luz y la oscuridad. Curioso, que en inglés "vicious" signifique "cruel" y no solo "vicioso". Un precioso poema que invita al lector a pensar.

u are instead telling: do not trust the light. and well, chavala, that might takes us into a interesting and twisted road trip. maybe the light is not what it seems.
