    FAKE A SMILE

    Drown your sorrow
    through these lines;
    realize there's no shoulder to cry;
    just the paper,
    just your mask,
    just deny that the rout chokes your heart,

    that once again the hope has died,
    that on its grave a jester cries
    and hides his wounds, his tears he dries
    what can he do but fake a smile?

    Dress your weakness
    in disguise
    and deny those naïve dreams of your heart;
    lift the curtain,
    breathe and laugh;
    dry your eyes 'cause the show has to start.

    'Cause once again the hope has died
    and on its grave a jester cries;
    he hides his wounds, his tears he dries
    what can he do but fake a smile?

    As beautiful as cruel,
    so innocently blue,
    the hope that blinds my heart
    and makes me dream and fly,
    that glitters just to die
    and fade before my eyes,
    to show it's just a lie,
    a void that fills my life.

    Now once again my hope has died
    and on its grave I quietly cry;
    I hide my wounds, my tears I dry
    what can I do but fake this smile?

    That is just how I feel at times.
    It´s fairly beautiful.
    Sometimes all we can do is fake a smile and pretend there´s nothing wrong.
    Because we have to stay strong, or at least pretend that we do.
    It´s absolutly beautiful.
    I love reading your poetry.
    Wish you the best

    Wow. This is a really good poem. Now, to its interpretation... I can relate to it only partially; hope in my life dies many times and each time it dies, it is born again, only to repeat the same cycle of dying and being restored... However, I do not think it a weakness to cry, to show emotions; after all, it is perfectly human to feel as much as it is to think. Also, to have hope is as naive, as it is logical; precisely, because we do not know what awaits us in the future and we don't know about the facts until they actually happen - that is the reason for which leaving all hope for good to avoid any further disappointment makes no sense to me, since it is always 50:50 - that is, 50% of chances that there will be a better time for us in this world. So, since it may or may not be that our life finally improves or that we are granted something we have been waiting for quite some time - then it makes more sense to hope for it, but not too much - as there is always a little doubt... In other words, we ought to be both hopeful and skeptical at the same time, which spares us disappointment but does not deprive us of the joy of expecting something to happen and then, when and IF it happens - of having our wishes granted...

    Yes, we also have to work on our destiny but I believe that some people do nothing and they have everything in this life while some work like donkeys and have nothing - and they die in the same state in which they came to this world... Their life is but an agony. Thus, I disagree with those who say that people are themselves responsible for their own fate. They are not to be blamed for their misfortunes. This isn't fair. There is no justice in this world. Yet, this does not prevent us from enjoying what is good about life, even if it is less than what is bad in it... ;-)

    Greetings!

    Beautiful words for those heavy, deep and dark feelings that are carried in that hearth. I hope those words flow into a ocean of peace one day.
    Although, there is a lot of true in this poem, because in life there are a lot of tests to pass, but the rewards can be amazing if you beat them. Bye!

    This world is like a giant circus...where we have to "smile".. to everybody...but our soul cries in despair...

  8. Hello there!

    I certainly dislike fake smiles. I go for simple and genuine intentions. Obviously, there are times when I don't feel like smiling, because my hope is down...so I just don't.

    I enjoyed reading your poem.
